Qareens – Two Always With You

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “There is no one among you but there has been appointed for him a Qareen (companion) from among the Jinn and a Qareen from among the angels.” They said: “You too, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “Me too, but Allah helped me against him and he has become Muslim, and he does not tell me to do anything but good.” [Muslim]

Every human being is accompanied by several of Allah’s creation. We are accompanied by many angels, and we can increase or decrease their numbers with our deeds. Alternatively, we can allow Jinn Shayateen to flock with us or chase them away.

This hadith tells us about the Qareens that accompany each of us from birth to death. There are two Qareens for each person. One is a Jinn who incites us to do evil, while the other Qareen is an angel who helps us to do good. Read the rest of this entry »

The Beginning of Revelation

“The beginnings of revelation to the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) took the form of true dreams. Whenever he had this kind of dream, it was something clear like the break of day. Then he was made to love going into retreat and used to retire to the cave of Hira where he would devote himself to the worship of Allah alone, continuing in this worship for a number of nights until he felt inclined to return to his family. He would take provisions for his stay. Then he would return to Khadeeja (radi Allahu anha) to restock with provisions and do the same again. This lasted until the Truth came to him while he was in the cave of Hira. The angel came to him and said, ‘Read!’ He said, ‘I cannot read.’ The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, ‘He seized me and squeezed me until all the strength went out of me and then released me and said, ‘Read!’ I said, ‘I cannot read.’

“Then he seized me and squeezed me a second time until all the strength went out of me and then released me. Then he seized me and squeezed me a third time and then released me, and then he said, ‘Read in the name of your Lord who created man from a blood clot. Read, and your Lord is the Most Generous…’ Read the rest of this entry »

Go Out and Get It!

hadithsRasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Seek out that which benefits you, seek help only from Allah and never say you can’t do it. If any adversity comes to you do not say: ‘If I had only acted in such-and-such a way, it would have been such-and-such;’ but instead, say: ‘Allah has decreed (it) and what He willed, He has done,’ for verily, (the word) ‘if’ opens the way for the work of Satan.” [Sahih Muslim]

Through this hadith Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) tells us to:

1. Seek the beneficial.
2. Ask Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) for help.
3. Be optimistic. Nothing is impossible if Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) wills it for you.
4. Don’t cry over spilt milk.
5. Trust Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) in what He has willed for you.

Time is like a river . . . You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow has passed and will never pass again. If there is something that will benefit you, make every effort and go after it! Seek it out! There is no failure, only lessons.

Finger Dipped In Ocean

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wasallam) said: “By Allah, this world in comparison to the hereafter is nothing but as though one of you dipped his finger in the sea. So ponder how much (of sea water), the finger returns with.” [Mishkaat]

The duration of the Day of Judgment is equal to 50,000 years. The sun will be brought overhead so that it is unbearably hot. People will be drenched in their sweat according to the amount of their sins. Some will be ankle deep in it, some will be in it up to their ears. In this condition, people will be standing for hundreds of earth years and not even a minute of that day will have gone by. Those who love Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) in this world will be under the shade of Allah’s Throne on the Day of Judgment – the only shade available that Day. Read the rest of this entry »
